Whilst the full specification Next Generation Touring Cars were struggling around the 2 mile Donington Park National circuit, the turbo-powered S2000-spec. cars were totally dominant over their normally aspirated rivals.

In the first free practice session, it was the Pirtek Racing Vauxhall Vectra of Andrew Jordan that posted the fastest time ahead of James Nash's 888 with Collins Contractors Vauxhall Vectra 2nd and the Honda Racing Civic of Gordon Shedden 3rd. Alex MacDowall's Silverline Chevrolet Cruze was the fastest of the normally aspirated cars in 9th place with team-mate and defending champion Jason Plato a disappointing 12th.

In the second free practice session, James Nash posted an even better time than he did in the first session to top the time sheet ahead of the Team Aon Global Ford Focus of Tom Chilton. Tom Boardman also posted a faster time in the second session than anybody else in the first session to finish 3rd fastest overall in his Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon. Alex MacDowall was the fastest of the normally aspirated cars in 8th place with Jason Plato once again well down the field in 12th.

With the turbo-powered cars looking so strong, it will be interesting to see if the normally aspirated cars can make up any ground in the qualifying session later this afternoon.
