Jason Plato expects a tough time at Donington Park as its long straights and sweeping corners may suit his rivals.
Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan - favourites for Donington Park victory
The world famous Grand Prix circuit at Donington Park plays host to the second installment of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend with title hopefuls Jason Plato, Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan all raring to go. Championship leader Jason Plato says he's expecting "more than a tough time", against the turbocharged cars at Donington with its long straights and sweeping corners.
Of the new cars, Frank Wrathall and Tony Hughes in the Toyaota Avensis' will be hoping for a good day in front of their home crowd, with a large number of Toyota UK's staff from the factory just 10 miles up the road to attend. Whilst the cars had teething problems in their first outing at Brands Hatch, the team is hoping that the programme of ongoing improvements will see them much more competitive going forwards.
Andrew Jordan in the turbocharged Pirtek Vauxhall Vectra is expected to be one of the favourites with the car showing blistering pace in testing and at Brands Hatch. Good things are expected of the other Vectras in the hands of James Nash and Jeff Smith. No doubt that Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden in the Honda Civics will be in the mix, but all eyes will be on the BMWs to see if the naturally aspirated cars can be competitive this year after a disappointing outing at Brands Hatch two weeks ago.
