Andrew Jordan on top of the world after winning race 2
There was drama shortly before the second race at Donington Park today when it was announced that the Honda Racing Team Civic of Gordon Shedden had been excluded from the first race and would now start at the back of the grid for race 2 due to too much boost on the Honda's turbocharger!
Shedden's misfortune meant that Matt Neal was now on pole, followed by Andrew Jordan's Vectra with James Nash in third and Tom Chilton in fourth in the Team Aon Ford Focus. Two of the title contenders, Shedden at the back of the pack and Plato in 18th, would be sure to spice up the action as the race started, and so it proved. Going into the old hairpin, Gordon Shedden lost his Honda Civic and hit Liam Griffin sending him spinning. Unfortunately, Griffin then took out the innocent Jason Plato whose car dug in and rolled at over 100 mph. Plato was able to walk away from the crash but was rightly rather upset. It is unlikely that the car will race again this weekend.
After the safety car went in, Andrew Jordan who was leading, backed the field up in the run down to the old chicane and we were back racing again. From there it was relatively easy for Jordan in the Vectra to control the race and he maintained position to the chequered flag ahead of James Nash in another Vectra in 2nd and Matt Neal in his Team Honda Racing Civic in 3rd.
At the end of the race the draw for the grid of the last race of the day was done and it was reversed to position 9, putting the Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall on pole. Behind him will be Tony Gilham, Tom Onslow-Cole and Gordon Shedden.
