Donington Park - Race 3 - 17/4/11
By MJP Media | 17 April 2011
Mat Jackson wins the 3rd race at Donington Park - James Nash now leads the championship.
Mat Jackson wins the final race of the day
The final race of the day saw Alex MacDowall on pole courtesy of the reverse grid draw after finishing 9th in race 2. Immediately behind MacDowall was Tony Gilham, Tom Onslow-Cole and Gordon Shedden. The news from the Chevrolet garage was that they had been able to repair Jason Plato's Cruze - a fantastic effort after his earlier crash.
Lap 1 started with a familiar feel as the safety car was deployed due to stranded cars. As the safety car came in the real racing began and after a period of frantic overtaking in the top half of the field, Mat Jackson took the lead from Andrew Jordan and soon developed a healthy lead in his turbocharged Ford Focus. Andrew Jordan, who had been quick all weekend, was comfortably 2nd with James Nash 3rd. Nash was doubly rewarded for his efforts as he took over the overall championship lead ahead of Matt Neal and Mat Jackson.
Probably the most amazing drive of the day came from Jason Plato who, in a car composed as much of gaffer tape and luck as anything else, was able to destroy some very classy opposition to bring the car home in 6th place. Plato and his mechanics should be really proud of themselves.
After the 2nd meeting of the 2011 season, James Nash heads the championship on 59 points ahead of Matt Neal on 55 and Mat Jackson on 54.
The next round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is at Thruxton on the 29th of April to the 1st of May. Don't miss full coverage here.
