Thruxton - Race 3 report - 1/5/11
By MJP Media | 1 May 2011
Plato strikes back with a victory in the 3rd race at Thruxton.
Tom Boardman was delighted with his podium in race 3
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton saw Lancashire's Seat Leon driver Tom Boardman on pole position for the final race of the day. The biggest threat to Boardman was the Silverline Chevrolets of Jason Plato and Alex MacDowall in second and third places, together with James Nash's blisteringly quick 888 Racing Vectra.
Boardman was immediately under pressure and was taken by the Chevrolet of Plato and the Airwaves Ford Focus of Mat Jackson on the first lap. This didn't deter Boardman, who showed that the Seat was a genuinely quick car by retaining third place to the end. At the front, things were looking very good for Plato who, with clear air and no success ballast, was opening a healthy lead in the non-turbocharged Chevrolet Cruze, until a safety car on lap 6 caused by Tom Chilton's demise bunched the field back up again.
When the safety car pulled in, things were strangely incident free, and the leaders maintained their positions through to the chequered flag. A hard fought victory for Plato and a great result for Boardman together with Mat Jackson coming home in 2nd place rounded off another fantastic weekend of action.
Leaving Thruxton, Matt Neal leads the championship on 90 points with Mat Jackson in the Airwaves Focus on 78 points and James Nash in the Vauxhall Vectra on 75 points. Next stop is Cheshire's picturesque Oulton Park circuit in 5 weeks time and we will bring you all the news as it happens.
