Oulton Park - Race 2 report - 5/6/11
By MJP Media | 5 June 2011
Victory for Jason Plato as Honda Racing Team throw away a 1-2 result on the last corner of the second race.
Rob Collard was delighted with 2nd place but later demoted to 3rd
For race 2 the rain returned causing more dilemmas for teams with tyre choices likely to dictate the outcome for their drivers.
Gordon Shedden led from pole position however the battle for the top places was much closer with Jason Plato and Matt Neal also pushing hard with James Nash, Rob Collard and Andrew Jordan fighting for places.
Matt Neal moved up to 2nd place on lap 9 with Jason Plato 3rd. It looked like it would be a Honda Racing Team 1-2 finish however the team-mates collided at the last corner of the last lap, causing both drivers to leave the track. Matt Neal got stuck in the gravel trap and failed to finish whilst Shedden managed to recover only to finish 6th.
The main beneficiaries of the Honda Racing fiasco were Jason Plato who inherited first place for the Silverline Chevrolet team, Rob Collard who finished 2nd for WSR and James Nash who finished 3rd. Andrew Jordan finished 4th for Pirtek Racing ahead of Alex MacDowall in 5th for Silverline Chevrolet. Officials later promoted James Nash to second and demoted Rob Collard to 3rd after they deemed Collard had been a little too robust in his efforts when he passed Nash.
The reverse grid system will reverse the top 9 places from race two on the grid for the final race of the day putting Mat Jackson on pole alongside Nick Foster. Row 2 will be Paul O'Neill and Gordon Shedden with Alex MacDowall and Andrew Jordan on row 3. Jason Plato will have his work cut out starting in 9th place on row 5.
