Croft - Race 2 report - 19/6/11
By MJP Media | 19 June 2011
Matt Neal takes a 2nd victory at Croft ahead of Rob Collard and Andrew Jordan as the Silverline Chevrolet Cruzes suffer mechanical failures.
Matt Neal wins race 2 from Rob Collard
As race 2 started, Rob Collard passed Mat Jackson for 2nd place. With the race settling down, Mat Jackson, Gordon Shedden and Jason Plato were fighting for 3rd, 4th and 5th as the Safety Car was deployed whilst the marshals recovered the damaged SEAT Leon of Tom Boardman. As racing resumed, Rob Collard was under pressure from the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus of Mat Jackson whilst his cold tyres got back up to full race temperature.
An unforced error by Mat Jackson running in 3rd on lap 9 allowed Gordon Shedden and Jason Plato to pass but Jackson swiftly regained 4th place from Plato.
Disaster struck for the Silverline Chevrolet team as Jason Plato running in 5th slowed down and subsequently retired on lap 11 with a suspected driveshaft failure. His team-mate Alex MacDowall had to pit a few laps later with an oil pressure problem.
In the closing laps, a fast charging Andrew Jordan made his way up the field and passed Gordon Shedden to take 3rd place which he held to the end of the race with Matt Neal taking a 2nd race win and Rob Collard coming home in 2nd. Gordon Shedden finished 4th with Mat Jackson 5th and Tom Chilton 6th.
The random reverse grid means that the top 7 drivers from race 2 will be reversed to form the grid for the final race of the day giving pole position to the WSR BMW 320si E90 of Nick Foster alongside the Team Aon Global Ford Focus of Tom Chilton. Mat Jackson and Gordon Shedden will start on the 2nd row with Andrew Jordan and Rob Collard on row 3. Matt Neal will start race 3 from 7th on the grid.
Andrew Jordan came an excellent 3rd in the 2nd race
