Croft - Race 3 report - 19/6/11
By MJP Media | 19 June 2011
Mat Jackson wins the final race from Croft for Airwaves Racing despite intense pressure from Rob Collard and Nick Foster in the WSR BMWs.
Mat Jackson - 2nd in the championship after winning race 3 at Croft
From 3rd on the grid, Mat Jackson took the lead of race 3 from Nick Foster on lap 1 as Tom Chilton ran wide. Behind Jackson the battle for 2nd place was intense between WSR team-mates Nick Foster and Rob Collard. Behind the leaders Gordon Shedden was also in contention whilst being under attack from Andrew Jordan.
Mat Jackson extended his lead as Foster defended his 2nd place from Collard for several laps. Despite an impressive drive, Foster could not challenge for Jackson's lead and on lap 11 he allowed his team-mate through to try and catch the leader. Collard started to attack Jackson but, like his team-mate, could not find a way past.
On the last lap it was clear that Mat Jackson was going to take the race victory despite Rob Collard's best efforts so Collard graciously let his team-mate Nick Foster re-take the 2nd place he had previously given up to Collard several laps earlier. With Jackson taking the race win, the WSR drivers were delighted with their 2nd and 3rd places. Outside of the podium positions, Andrew Jordan finished 4th ahead of James Nash in 5th and Gordon Shedden in 6th.
At the half-way point of the 2011 season, Matt Neal heads the Drivers Championship on 140 points ahead of Mat Jackson on 131 and Gordon Shedden on 120. Defending champion Jason Plato is currently 6th on 100 points behind Andrew Jordan and James Nash.
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship now takes a summer break and will resume at the re-designed Snetterton circuit in Norfolk on 6th/7th August.
