Frank Wrathall gets first top 10 for a full spec. NGTC car
On a cool and cloudy afternoon in Norfolk, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship went out on the Snetterton track in qualifying for tomorrow's racing with the largest field of the year to date.
The hot favourites were quickly into their stride with Jason Plato, the quickest man in the first free practice session, setting the early pace. Unfortunately for Preston's Tom Boardman, the session ended prematurely as mechanical problems once again hit his SEAT Leon.
As the session proceeded, it was clear that Jason Plato in the Silverline Chevrolet Cruze had really got to grips with the new circuit layout as he put in a series of quick laps. Keeping Plato company at the top of the time sheets were Gordon Shedden in the Honda Racing Team Civic and Alex MacDowall in the second Silverline Chevrolet Cruze. Championship leader Matt Neal in the other Honda Racing Civic was running back in 4th.
The session ended with Jason Plato claiming pole position from Gordon Shedden in 2nd and Alex MacDowall in 3rd. Frank Wrathall in the Dynojet Toyota Avensis was consistently quick and put his car on the 4th row of the grid in 7th place - the first time one of the new NGTC specification cars qualified in the top ten.
