Snetterton - Race 3 report - 7/8/11
By MJP Media | 7 August 2011
Mat Jackson leads the championship after taking victory in the final race at Snetterton. Jason Plato closes the gap with 3 podiums from 3 races.
Mat Jackson - current championship leader
Having been gifted pole position for the third and final race of the day, Dave Newsham held the lead until he was passed on lap 2 by the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus of Mat Jackson. Whilst Jackson extended his lead, Newsham defended his position well but was passed for 2nd place by Paul O'Neill in the GoMobileUK.com tech-speed Chevrolet Cruze.
With Jackson out on front and O'Neill in 2nd, Dave Newsham now found himself under pressure from Jason Plato. Again, Newsham defended well but Plato found his way past on the penultimate lap to deny the Special Tuning Racing driver a podium position.
At the finish, it was Mat Jackson who took the race win and with it the lead in the championship. Paul O'Neill finished in an excellent 2nd place with Jason Plato completing the top 3.
After a fantastic day of racing on the new '300' circuit at Snetterton, Mat Jackson leads the championship on 158 points with Gordon Shedden 2nd on 150 points. With 3 podiums from 3 races, Jason Plato has closed the gap to the championship leader to just 20 points and is currently 4th in the standings behind Matt Neal in 3rd.
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship now heads north of the border to the Knockhill circuit in Fife on September 3rd and 4th.
Dave Newsham defended well against the front-runners
