Knockhill - Race 2 Report - 4/9/11
By MJP Media | 4 September 2011
Local hero Gordon Shedden delights the fans by winning the 2nd race at Knockhill as Frank Wrathall makes history with the first outright BTCC podium for an NGTC car.
Gordon Shedden celebrates winning race 2
From pole position, Tom Chilton led the 2nd race at Knockhill from the start and extended a slight lead over the following pack comprising Matt Neal, Gordon Shedden and Frank Wrathall.
After a brief period under the Safety Car to recover the VW Golf of Martin Byford, Chilton found himself under intense pressure from the cars behind him. Everything changed on lap 20 when Chilton ran wide allowing Neal, Shedden and Wrathall to pass. On the following lap, an unforced error by Matt Neal allowed Gordon Shedden through to take the lead which he held to the end of the race, much to the delight of the Scottish fans!
Matt Neal held on to finish 2nd despite being put under constant pressure from Frank Wrathall who made BTCC history by finishing 3rd and securing the first outright podium result for a Next Generation Touring Car. Tom Chilton finished 4th with Rob Collard 5th and Tom Boardman 6th.
The reverse grid system will reverse the top 7 cars from race 2 to form the grid for the last race of the day. This means that Jason Plato will start on pole alongside Tom Boardman with Rob Collard and Tom Chilton on the 2nd row and Frank Wrathall and Matt Neal on row 3.
Gordon Shedden now leads the championship by 3 points from Matt Neal as we look forward to the last race of the day.
