Jason Plato started the final race of the day from pole position with the Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon of Tom Boardman in hot pursuit. The pair fought intensely for several laps until Boardman tapped the rear of Plato's Silverline Chevrolet, sending the defending champion off the track and out of the race.

Now leading the race, Boardman came under increasing pressure from the WSR BMW 320si of Rob Collard who in turn was being put under pressure from the Team Aon Global Ford Focus of Tom Chilton and Frank Wrathall in the NGTC specification Toyota Avensis. Behind the front-runners were Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden in the Honda Racing Team Civics.

As the race progressed, Tom Chilton slipped down the field and out of the podium positions. The race ended with a maiden BTCC victory for Preston based Tom Boardman with Rob Collard 2nd. Repeating his race 2 success, Frank Wrathall (also from Preston) took 3rd and the final place on the podium - a fantastic result for the NGTC driver. Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden finished 4th and 5th with Tom Chilton completing the top 6.

After an exciting day of racing, local hero Gordon Shedden leaves Knockhill leading the championship on 182 points, just 1 point ahead of team-mate Matt Neal on 181. Mat Jackson, who led the championship after the previous meeting at Snetterton, is now 3rd on 159 points. The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship now heads to Rockingham in Northamptonshire on September 17th and 18th.
