By MJP Media | 17 September 2011
NGTC specification cars dominate the free practice sessions at Rockingham as Frank Wrathall and Rob Austin top the timesheets. Jason Plato is 2nd fastest in both sessions.
Rob Austin topped the table in the second practice session
Frank Wrathall continued his recent run of success by topping the timesheets in the first free practice session of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Rockingham. Close behind the Preston based driver were the Silverline Chevrolet Cruzes of Jason Plato and his team-mate Alex MacDowall. The recent changes to the technical regulations were not appearing to significantly affect the performance of Wrathall's NGTC specification Toyota Avensis.
The turbo-powered S2000 Honda Racing Civics of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden appeared to suffer more with championship leader Shedden 8th fastest and Matt Neal 10th fastest in the first session. Tom Chilton, Andrew Jordan, Mat Jackson and Tom Boardman were all in the top ten.
In an exciting 2nd free practice session, Rob Austin posted the fastest time in his NGTC Audi A4, further demonstrating the performance developments of the new NGTC specification cars. Jason Plato was 2nd fastest in the 2nd session ahead of the Vauxhall Vectra of James Nash and the Honda Racing Civic of Gordon Shedden.
All eyes will be on the NGTC cars of Frank Wrathall and Rob Austin to see if either of them can convert their performance in the practice sessions to a pole position in the qualifying session this afternoon.
