Pole sitter Jason Plato in his Silverline Chevrolet Cruze
Qualifying for the first BTCC race at Rockingham on Sunday took place on a cool and damp track, the forecast rain failing to materialise to any significant degree.
The NGTC cars of Frank Wrathall and Rob Austin that dominated the free practice sessions failed to convert their earlier performance into a pole position for tomorrow's first race, however Rob Austin did manage to qualify his Audi A4 in third place which is still an excellent achievement.
Pole position went to the Silverline Chevrolet Cruze of Jason Plato who was 2nd fastest in both the free practice sessions. Making it an all Chevrolet front row, Paul O'Neill put in a magnificent performance to qualify his GoMobileUK.com tech-speed Cruze in 2nd place.
With Rob Austin in 3rd, former BTCC champion Matt Neal qualified his Honda Racing Team Civic in 4th place ahead of the Vauxhall Vectra of James Nash in 5th with the other Honda Racing Team Civic of Gordon Shedden completing the top 6 positions.
Jason Plato and Matt Neal had an intense battle in the closing minutes of the session, colliding several times. The battle spilled over into an altercation in the pit lane.
