Jason Plato celebrates winning the first race of the day
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Rockingham provided the venue for the 8th meeting of the 2011 British Touring Car Championship.
Following a controversial qualifying session on Saturday, Jason Plato started the first race of the day from pole position and led to the chequered flag to secure victory in his Silverline Chevrolet Cruze.
Paul O'Neill ran well in the GoMobileUK.com tech-speed Chevrolet Cruze and maintained his 2nd place start to finish in 2nd behind Plato - a 1-2 result for the Chevrolet Cruze, albeit with different teams.
Behind Plato and O'Neill, the battle for the last podium position was intense between Gordon Shedden, Frank Wrathall, James Nash and Matt Neal. Towards the end of the race it was Shedden, Neal and Wrathall who were contesting the position. On lap 16 Wrathall passed Shedden then proceeded to pass Neal on the next lap to end the race in 3rd place.
Outside of the podium positions, Matt Neal finished 4th in his Honda Racing Civic ahead of the WSR BMW 320si of Nick Foster in 5th and Gordon Shedden 6th in the other Honda Racing Civic.
