At a dry and sunny Silverstone, the massive crowd were treated to a dramatic opening race for the final meeting of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

From pole, championship leader Matt Neal led the first race from start to finish in his Honda Racing Civic to consolidate his lead at the top of the championship table. For most of the race, Neal was under constant pressure from the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus of Mat Jackson, however a puncture on lap 23 forced Jackson into the pits and out of contention, allowing Gordon Shedden who had been running in 3rd place to move up to 2nd ahead of the 888 with Collins Contractors Vauxhall Vectra of James Nash.

Further down the field, Jason Plato was having a race from hell, his Silverline Chevrolet Cruze suffering a puncture on lap 10 putting the title contender at the back of the field, several laps down. Plato will need a miracle in the remaining two races to recover his championship campaign.

At the chequered flag, is was a Honda Racing 1-2 with Matt Neal taking the race win ahead of team-mate Gordon Shedden and James Nash 3rd. Tom Onslow-Cole finished 4th for Team Aon with the Silverline Chevrolet Cruze of Alex MacDowall 5th and the Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon of Dave Newsham 6th. In the process of gaining 3rd place on the podium, James Nash secured the 2011 Independents Trophy.

With 2 races remaining of the 2011 season, Matt Neal now heads the table on 242 points ahead of Gordon Shedden on 232 and Jason Plato on 220. It's now a 3 horse race as we look forward to the next action-packed instalment.
