Gordon Shedden scoops the Crash.net BTCC Driver of the Year award
The fans votes saw the series champion Matt Neal (the other Honda driver) back in third behind the rising star of the BTCC, Frank Wrathall (Dynojet Toyota Avensis) who secured second place, probably due to a large female vote as well an incredibly good first season in the development car.
Rounding out the top 5 were James Nash in 4th and Mat Jackson in 5th. Jasonh Plato was 6th with Andrew Jordan 7th, Paul O'Neill 8th, Rob Austin 9th and Tom Onslow-Cole 10th.
For Shedden it was ample reward for an outstanding seasons racing which, without a bit of bad luck and being punted off by his team mate when heading for victory at Oulton Park, would surely have seen him crowned 2011 BTCC champion. The first half of the season was one to forget for Shedden who did well to recover from a major crash in practice at the opening round at Brands Hatch. Donington was a disaster for the Scot with a retirement and an exclusion but Thruxton brought a change of fortunes and a win. The second half of the season was a real triumph for the Honda driver with wins at every circuit except Brands Hatch. At the end Matt Neal won the title, but boy did he know he had been in a fight!
