Fans favourite David Coulthard in the DTM
DTM (the German Touring Car Championship) makes a spectacular return to Brands Hatch on September 3rd and 4th with some of the world's best drivers, including a number of British drivers such as former F1 winner David Coulthard, Mercedes driver Gary Paffett who has won 17 DTM races, and Susie Stoddart from Oban in Scotland who is considered by many to be Britain's finest female racing driver.
DTM features hugely powerful V8 rear-wheel drive cars from Audi and Mercedes-Benz which battle in a race format that features two mandatory pit stops during the race for fuel and tyres. These cars are so quick that they complete the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in a little over half the time that a British Touring Car takes.
Susie Stoddart is one of only two female drivers to compete in the series and this is her sixth season for Mercedes. Having secured her first points in the championship last year, she will be aiming for a strong finish in her home race. Prior to DTM, Susie was well known as a junior in Formula Renault. Other British interest includes Jamie Green from Leicester for Mercedes who is currently the highest-placed Briton in the 2011 standings with 24 points. Oliver Jarvis from Burwell driving for Audi is still looking for his first win in the series however he has had a podium finish this year.
Superstar David Coulthard needs no introduction after 14 years and numerous wins in F1. There will no doubt be a large number of "DC" fans at Brands Hatch for this event, however all the British drivers will be hard pushed to threaten the current championship leaders and title favourites Bruno Spengler and Martin Tomczyk. The Mercedes and Audi rivals are sitting just seven points apart in the table, so there is plenty to play for.
With Brands Hatch being the first of the four remaining rounds, it is likely to have a critical role to play in the 2011 championship. Tickets for the DTM meeting at Brands Hatch are available from www.motorsportvision.com or from the circuit direct on 0843 453 9000.
