In the blistering late summer heat, the Brands Hatch crowd watched an incredibly close qualifying session ahead of tomorrow's 98 lap race - round 7 of the 2011 DTM Championship.

In an enthralling first part of qualifying, there was less than a third of a second separating the top 10 drivers. The crowd were slightly disappointed as home favourites Susie Stoddart and David Coulthard made an early exit, which means they will line up 16th and 17th on tomorrow's grid.

The later part of qualifying proved much more successful for the remaining British drivers with both Gary Paffett and Jamie Green making it through to the top four shoot-out for Mercedes.

On the single flying lap allowed, Gary Paffett took a fantastic second, whilst Jamie Green was fourth. Perhaps the happiest man on the circuit was German Mike Rockenfeller who took his maiden DTM pole position in the Audi by just a tenth of a second.

The massive crowd expected for tomorrow's 98 lap race will certainly have lots to cheer for and we will bring you coverage of that race tomorrow.
