Donington Park - Qualifying - 16/7/11
By MJP Media | 16 July 2011
Chevrolet qualifies 1-2-3 at Donington Park in a continuing display of their dominance of the World Touring Car Championship. Yvan Muller is in pole position for the first race tomorrow with Rob Huff 2nd and Alain Menu 3rd.
Chevrolet dominate qualifying with a 1-2-3 result
Following the bad weather during the earlier free practice sessions, it was a dry track that greeted the drivers as they commenced the qualifying sessions for the first race tomorrow. Despite a slight fall of rain during the first few laps, it was a generally dry session - totally different to the conditions during the morning and a headache for the teams in terms of their choice of setup on the cars.
After running for a couple of laps at the start of the first qualifying session the Chevrolet drivers held back for a while before re-joining the fray. On the rapidly improving track, the three drivers topped the timesheets to reinforce their dominant hold on the championship with Yvan Muller ahead of team-mates Rob Huff and Alain Menu. Darryl O'Young was 4th with former BTCC champion Colin Turkington 5th.
In the second qualifying session, the top ten drivers from the first session competed for the top ten places on the grid. Unsurprisingly it was the Chevrolet drivers who stole the show yet again with Yvan Muller taking pole position ahead of Rob Huff in 2nd and Alain Menu in 3rd. Tiago Monteiro qualified in 4th place with Colin Turkington in 5th. Turkington (the highest qualifying Yokohama Trophy contender) was delighted as his 5th place following a disappointing morning when he was near the back of the field in both practice sessions.
