Yvan Muller takes a second race victory at Donington Park but Rob Huff still leads the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
Rob Huff helps Yvan Muller celebrate victory in race 2
Once again the weather forecasters got it wrong and the torrential rain expected for the second WTCC race of the day failed to materialise although there was a light shower towards the latter stages.
In contrast to the rolling start of the first race, the second race started from a static grid. With the reverse grid system in place, pole position was occupied by the BMW 320 of Tom Coronel. The dominant Chevrolet Cruzes of Rob Huff, Yvan Muller and Alain Menu would start in the middle of the field but it would surely only be a matter time before they took control of the race.
True to form, two of the Chevrolets in the shape of Yvan Muller and Rob Huff soon made it to the front of the pack but not before Muller had tapped the rear of Huff's car, sending Huff wide and allowing Muller to pass his team-mate.
Once they were at the front, Huff could not catch Muller and the pair repeated their result from the first race with Muller 1st and Huff 2nd. Franz Engstler once again was the leading Yokohama Trophy driver, however this time he also finished 3rd overall to achieve his first WTCC podium position. Pole-sitter Tom Coronel did well to finish 4th.
After the UK rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, Rob Huff still leads the championship however the gap to second place Yvan Muller has reduced to just 15 points. The championship now heads to Germany on July 31st.
