With a full factory-backed programme, the MG6 GTs will be prepared by Triple Eight Race Engineering, one of the BTCC's most successful constructors, to the new Next Generation Touring Car regulations with an all new 300bhp 2 litre turbocharged engine based on the road car engine. The primary sponsors of the team will be Tesco Fuels, with its Momentum 99 fuel brand, and energy drink KX. The team will be officially known as MG KX Momentum Racing.
MG last competed in the BTCC as a works team back in 2003 and is without doubt one of the iconic names in the history of British motorsport. The British Touring Car Championship provides an ideal opportunity for MG Motor UK to showcase its new cars and with Jason Plato and Triple Eight Race Engineering involved in the project there is every chance that the car will become highly competitive very quickly as both are proven championship winners and highly respected within the motorsport paddock.
MG Motor UK are thrilled at the chance to showcase the new car in such a competitive environment. Doug Wallace, PR Manager at MG Motor UK said the future for MG looked good. With this partnership certain to capture the public imagination it will be good to see the famous red and white MG logo back on British circuits this season.
