Home hero Gordon Shedden is ready for the 2012 BTCC season

Dalgety Bay's very own Gordon Shedden looks forward to the 2012 British Touring Car Championship season in an exclusive interview with the Daily Record during testing at Cheshire's Oulton Park circuit.

Shedden, from Dalgety Bay in Fife, is one of the most successful current Scottish drivers and only narrowly missed out on lifting last year's BTCC trophy in the very last race of the season. In the end he finished second behind team-mate Matt Neal in the other Honda Racing Civic, but wasn't bitter. "Last year was a fabulous year for me and if you had offered me second in the championship at the start I might have been tempted to take you up on it." he said.
2012 sees a whole new challenge for "Flash" (as he is known in the racing world) and the Honda Racing team with an entirely new car still under development. The car has now had three outings and is starting to take shape. People need to remember that almost every single part of this car is brand new and so turning it into a race-winning car is a major challenge for the team and drivers.
Shedden continued: "Even on the track the car feels totally different. Despite being slightly shorter than the old car, it is 50mm wider and 50mm lower so it is a very different car to drive. Thankfully in Matt and myself we have a lot of race experience and as we have the best team behind us we are developing the car rapidly."
When pushed on how the new car would be at the start of the season in April, Flash was upbeat. "We have an awful lot of work to do before then but we are very positive in our abilities within Honda Racing and Team Dynamics to overcome any obstacles that might occur and I am sure that we will be there or thereabouts."
We are carrying full coverage of the 2012 British Touring Car Championship here in the Daily Record and will bring you news of Flash's progress as testing and the season progresses.
