Surrounded by farmland, Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire is always a firm favourite with the fans and its mixture of low, medium and high-speed sections, together with the tightest hairpin bend on the BTCC calendar, always produces exciting racing.

Last time out at Oulton Park, Jason Plato had mixed fortunes when he secured pole position in the final 60 seconds of the qualifying session only to have a suspension failure which meant he couldn't make the start of the first race. Starting from the back of the grid for race 2, he powered his way through the field to finish on the podium in 3rd place - a fantastic achievement which delighted the spectators. Although Plato finished 2nd in race 3, the lack of points from race 1 allowed Honda Racing Team's Gordon Shedden to take the lead in the championship as he and team-mate Matt Neal shared the race wins.

Nick Foster and Chris James each received official reprimands and two penalty points on their competition licences for collisions in the first race at Oulton Park. Mat Jackson received the same punishment after a collision with Rob Collard in the second race and received the same again following a clash with Daniel Welch in race three. Other incidents involving various drivers in the third race at Oulton Park have been held over and will be investigated at the Croft meeting.
