British Touring Car Championship
Silverstone Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 26 September 2012
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Silverstone on October 6th and 7th for the penultimate meeting of the season. Gordon Shedden leads the championship however 7 drivers could still lift the 2012 BTCC trophy.
Championship leader Gordon Shedden
Following his 2 race wins last time out at Rockingham, Honda Yuasa Racing Team driver Gordon Shedden will go into the penultimate meeting at Silverstone with a 3 point lead over his team-mate and defending BTCC champion Matt Neal. With victory in 8 of the 24 races so far this season, Shedden is well placed to take his maiden BTCC Championship title however Neal, already a 3-time winner, will be eager to claim a 4th title.
Just 32 points behind current championship leader Gordon Shedden, Jason Plato is still in with a good chance of regaining the BTCC Championship title he last won in 2010. His MG KX Momentum Racing MG6 is expected to be strong around the high-speed Silverstone National circuit and with the Hondas expecting to struggle, Silverstone could be a high-scoring meeting for the Plato.
Jason Plato - currently 3rd in the championship
Currently outside the top 3 places in the championship table, 4 other drivers could still mathematically win the 2012 championship, namely Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan, eBay Motors team-mates Rob Collard and Tom Onslow-Cole and Redstone Racing's Mat Jackson. Just 17 points behind Jason Plato, Andrew Jordan is well placed to take advantage if the front-runners have problems.
Silverstone will be a critical meeting for all the title contenders and with its relatively short lap and long, wide straights it never fails to deliver plenty of bumper-to-bumper action. Adult tickets for race day (Sunday) start from just £29 if booked in advance with admission for accompanied children aged 15 and under FREE all weekend. Admission includes access to grandstands, the main central BTCC teams' paddock and Sunday's specially organised autograph session with the stars of the British Touring Car Championship.
Defending BTCC Champion Matt Neal
In addition to the three penultimate races of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship which headline the event, there will be a further 12 races featuring the Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Junior Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup, Renault Clio Cup and Formula Renault BARC - a full programme of motorsport indeed!
