Inverness-based Dave Newsham has announced he will be joining the Speedworks Motorsport Team for the 2013 BTCC season as well as being the BTCC columnist for the Daily Mirror and Daily Record.

In a major double announcement, Dave Newsham has today confirmed that he will not only be driving for Christian Dick's Stockport based Speedworks Motorsport squad in a brand new Toyota Avensis, but he has also been signed as the Daily Mirror and Daily Record BTCC columnist for 2013.
We recently went testing with Dave Newsham and Speedworks and they were both full of admiration for each other. Speedworks Team Sponsor Tony Hughes told us "Dave is without doubt one of the quickest and best drivers on the grid. His calculating driving style allows him to avoid a lot of the problems and situations that others get entangled in and we are confident that he will be a tremendous acquisition for the squad. We really hope to be able to challenge for honours this year."

Dave himself is also very upbeat about 2013. "In Speedworks I have an excellent team to work with and the all-new Avensis is a seriously good car. I can't wait to get our test programme started in the new year."
Bizarrely, this isn't the first time that Newsham has been in contact with the Speedworks team. In one of his first BTCC races he was pushed wide onto the grass and on rejoining the circuit he avoided nearly all the other runners before connecting with, of all things, a Speedworks Toyota Avensis that was being driven by his new team's sponsor, Tony Hughes!

With regard to his columnist duties, Dave and the team are delighted to be given the opportunity to share a season's work with the fans on an ongoing basis through his column. Dave was voted the BTCC 'Fans Favourite Driver' last season, an honour which he prizes very highly. "The chance to be able to share my experiences with the fans will be fantastic." he said.
The team is likely to conduct its biggest test in Spain in the New Year and we will be accompanying the team and bringing the news directly to you.
