By MJP Media | 28 December 2012
As the new NGTC specification becomes the dominant force in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, S2000 cars will also be able to contest a new title in the 2013 season - the 'Jack Sears Trophy'.
Rob Collard was the highest placed S2000 driver in the 2012 BTCC season
The BTCC has announced a new award for the 2013 season - the 'Jack Sears Trophy'. The trophy, named in honour of the great double BTCC champion, will be awarded to the top-performing S2000 driver in the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
S2000 cars have been a part of the BTCC grid since 2004 and remain eligible to compete in the BTCC in 2013 but they will no longer benefit from the strict performance parity they have previously enjoyed compared with the rapidly growing number of the latest NGTC specification cars which will become the dominant force.
Dave Newsham also had success in 2012 with his S2000 Vauxhall Vectra
After each race, the highest S2000 finisher will receive a cup and at the end of the season the driver with the most 'cups' will be awarded the 'Jack Sears Trophy'.
Jack Sears won the very first BTCC (then called the British Saloon Car Championship) in 1958 in a dramatic tie-breaker race and won his second title in 1963.

Sears commented "It'll be 55 years since I won my first title and 50 since I was fortunate enough to win it a second time - I feel very honoured that the championship wants to create a trophy in my name after all these years."
