A View From The Driver's Seat: Frank Wrathall's Croft Qualifying Session
By Frank Wrathall / MJP Media | 23 June 2012
Following 'radical changes' to his Dynojet Toyota Avensis, Frank Wrathall shares his joy at qualifying 4th for the first race at Croft.
Fantastic! It all came together this afternoon. As I look back at qualifying for tomorrow's race, I have to say a huge thank you to the whole team for a supreme effort. The car was totally hooked up and we showed exactly why we are here - to compete with the very best that the BTCC has to offer. Ok, the Honda Civics were above us, but 4th was the best we could achieve under the circumstances.
We were quite cagey earlier in the week when we described the Avensis as having undergone what the team described as 'radical changes' ahead of the weekend. We went into the 30-minute qualifying session aiming to secure a place in the top 10 on the grid - a target we would ultimately reach with ease!
After a brief rain shower before the session got underway, qualifying itself was eventually run on a drying circuit as conditions improved, with us running inside the top 10 before a really satisfying personal best - which included the best second sector of anyone in the field - saw me secure fourth on the grid.
Of course, the boys did me proud with the car and it was great to be able to pay them back for that effort. Hopefully we will be competitive in the races - we'll see what we can do tomorrow!
