Speedworks Motorsport successfully test in Portugal
By MJP Media | 1 March 2013
The Speedworks Motorsport team returned from an exciting 2 day test at the picturesque Portimao circuit in southern Portugal with high hopes for the forthcoming British Touring Car Championship season.
Dave Newsham testing in Portugal
Number one driver Dave Newsham particularly enjoyed the first serious outing in the new car and put in a lot of track time to provide invaluable data for the team going forward. Alongside Dave was Lea Wood, a fellow ex-Vectra driver, in the second car who also enjoyed some time in a full NGTC specification car.
The Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis performed well
It was Newsham who really put the hammer down and was amazed at how good the new Toyota Avensis the team had prepared was. Amazingly, after some great times, he was able to set a lap time a full 3 seconds faster than the World Touring Car Championship pole position time. "It was incredible" enthused Dave, "I can't thank Christian and the team enough for the work they have put in. They have given me a car that exceeded my every expectation".
The only slight disappointment was on the second day which ended prematurely when Newsham in his own words "clobbered a kerb and bent the suspension", however that was a blip on an otherwise impressive debut for Newsham and the new car which certainly pleased the team.
