MG dominates the free testing sessions at Snetterton
By MJP Media | 20 July 2013
Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff top the time sheets for MG KX Momentum Racing in the recent test session at Snetterton as the BTCC prepares for the 2nd half of the 2013 season.
Jason Plato was fastest on the 2nd day of testing
Jason Plato was fastest in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship free tyre test during the summer break at Snetterton. With cars running soft, medium and prototype rubber compounds and several drivers not testing, it was difficult to judge how the teams will shape up for the second half of the season.
Plato's MG KX Momentum Racing MG6 was fastest in both the morning and afternoon sessions of the second day - a mere 0.3 seconds ahead of team-mate Sam Tordoff. Only one other driver was able to match Tordoff's time, which equalled Frank Wrathall's 2012 pole position time in the Dynojet Toyota Avensis. This doesn't tell the full story though as Tordoff had been quickest in both sessions of the first day to give the MGs the fastest time in all of the sessions throughout the test.
Sam Tordoff topped the time sheets on the 1st day
Team HARD.'s Jack Goff in the RCIB Insurance Racing Vauxhall Insignia continued his progress in the series by going third fastest overall thanks to a 1m57.789s lap whilst Rob Collard also finished sub 1m58s to end up fourth fastest, two places ahead of his eBay Motors BMW team-mate Colin Turkington.
The guest Airwaves Racing seat saw Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy out-perform regular drivers Aron Smith and Mat Jackson in the Ford Focuses during early testing, the boys clearly had a point to prove on the final afternoon and Smith ended up fifth, while Jackson and Tandy were eighth and ninth respectively.
Andrew Jordan in the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic
Andrew Jordan set some great individual sector times in the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic but couldn't match the outright lap pace of some others to finish 7th overall. His team boss, Dad and former BTCC racer Mike Jordan shared the other car with Jeff Smith and was able to show that there was life in the old dog yet when he set a lap time that was a second faster than the car's regular driver to round out the top 10.
The British Touring Car Championship will all be back at Snetterton on August 3rd and 4th for more racing action and the start of the second half of the season and we will have a ticket giveaway in our preview, coming up soon!
