Donington Park Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 10 April 2013
Following the excitement of the opening rounds a few weeks ago, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship now looks forward to the next meeting at Donington Park on April 20th and 21st.
Jeff Smith's fire-spitting Pirtek Racing Honda Civic
Donington Park near East Midlands Airport is the venue for the next meeting of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. This historic circuit is a tough technical challenge for the BTCC drivers and their engineers with its fast, open sweeping bends that rise and fall through the circuit's picturesque setting.
Former BTCC champion Jason Plato leads the Drivers' Championship for MG KX Momentum Racing with reigning Independents' Champion Andrew Jordan 2nd for Pirtek Racing. Both teams performed well in the opening rounds at Brands Hatch with Plato's team-mate Sam Tordoff and Andrew Jordan's team-mate Jeff Smith 3rd and 4th respectively in the championship standings. Reigning BTCC champion Gordon Shedden will arrive at Donington Park in 9th place following a troublesome opening meeting.
Championship leader Jason Plato was delighted at winning the first race of the year
Currently lying 5th in the championship standings, Matt Neal will compete in his 500th BTCC race at the Donington Park meeting. The three-time BTCC champion will reach this outstanding achievement in the second of the three races on the Sunday and he will be keen to increase his tally of 49 BTCC race wins gained over his 22-year career in the British Touring Car Championship.
In the newly created Jack Sears Trophy for S2000 specification cars, James Kaye won the inaugural Jack Sears Cup for race 1 but it is Liam Griffin who leads the way after Brands Hatch having won the Jack Sears Cup for race 2 and been gifted the Cup for race 3 following the exclusion of Lea Wood from the result. Joe Girling also showed signs of good pace during the weekend but was let down by reliability issues. Warren Scott also showed a good turn of speed however he suffered from a number of off-track excursions. The battle for the Jack Sears Trophy looks set to be very closely contended.
Matt Neal will contend his 500th BTCC race at Donington Park
