With the threat of rain still present for later in the day, the drivers took to the track for the 2nd race of the day from Donington Park with defending BTCC champion Gordon Shedden in pole position following his victory in the first race. Reigning Independents' champion Andrew Jordan started alongside the Scot making it an all Honda Civic front row. Shedden's Honda Yuasa Racing team-mate Matt Neal started on the 2nd row of the grid alongside arch rival Jason Plato. With Jason Plato and Matt Neal competing in their 400th and 500th BTCC races, their cars carried the numbers '400' and '500' respectively to honour the occasion.

After a brief period under Safety Car conditions following an incident involving James Kaye and David Nye, Gordon Shedden led the race but came under constant pressure from Andrew Jordan. Behind, Matt Neal was also being challenged by Jason Plato who managed to pass Neal to take 3rd place on lap 4. At the front, Andrew Jordan found a way past Gordon Shedden on lap 7 and started to extend a significant lead.

Gordon Shedden looked set to take 2nd place for most of the race, however he lost out to a hard-charging Jason Plato on lap 16. Further down the field, Frank Wrathall retired from 6th place on lap 7 with an electrical fault whilst the Airwaves Racing cars of Aron Smith and Mat Jackson struggled in mid-field.

Jason Plato ended his 400th BTCC race in 2nd place with Andrew Jordan taking the race win for Pirtek Racing. Gordon Shedden finished 3rd, with Matt Neal 4th. Adam Morgan finished 5th for Ciceley Racing with Sam Tordoff continuing his fine form by completing the top six for MG KX Momentum Racing.
