Jason Plato continues his dominance of the Oulton Park circuit with a second victory for MG KX Momentum Racing and now leads the championship by 6 points from Matt Neal.
Colin Turkington doing battle with Sam Tordoff
Following their 1-2 victory in the first race, MG KX Momentum Racing drivers Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff took the front row of the grid for the second time today as the cars lined up for the 2nd of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races from Cheshire's Oulton Park circuit. Row 2 was taken by Gordon Shedden and Andrew Jordan in their Honda Civics with Colin Turkington and Matt Neal on row 3.
Colin Turkington got a fantastic start in his eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport and was briefly up to 2nd from 5th on the grid but Sam Tordoff immediately reclaimed the position. By the end of the first lap Jason Plato had built a 2 second lead over team-mate Tordoff who was coming under attack from Turkington with Gordon Shedden and Andrew Jordan close behind.
Jason Plato on the way to his second victory of the day
The Safety Car was deployed on lap 3 whilst the marshals cleared the Vauxhall Insignia of Jack Goff which was blocking the pit lane entrance. During this period the cars naturally bunched up behind race leader Jason Plato, however when racing resumed Plato soon re-established his lead over the rest of the field as Sam Tordoff once again came under pressure from Gordon Shedden.
After an intense battle, Gordon Shedden passed Sam Tordoff to take 2nd place and Tordoff then fell into the clutches of Colin Turkington who was in turn defending his position from Matt Neal. The race settled down with Jason Plato out in front in a class of his own and Gordon Shedden 2nd however the battle for 3rd place was intensifying between Sam Tordoff and Colin Turkington who finally managed to take the position on lap 13. Tordoff then lost further places to Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan before a collision with Mat Jackson on lap 16 damaged both their cars, allowing Dave Newsham to take 6th place.
Jason Plato celebrates his second race win with Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington
The race ended with a second victory of the day for Jason Plato and MG KX Momentum Racing. Gordon Shedden finished 2nd for Honda Yuasa Racing with Colin Turkington 3rd. Matt Neal finished 4th with Andrew Jordan 5th and Dave Newsham 6th. Lea Wood won his second Jack Sears Cup of the day for Wheel Heaven/Houseman Racing. Jason Plato now leads the championship by 6 points from Matt Neal going into race 3.
The reverse grid draw will see the top 10 finishers from race 2 reversed to form the grid for the final race of the day with Pirtek Racing's Jeff Smith in pole position alongside Daniel Welch in the Proton Gen-2. On row 2 will be Rob Austin in the WIX Racing Audi A4 and Adam Morgan in the Ciceley Racing Toyota Avensis with Dave Newsham and Andrew Jordan on row 3. Jason Plato will start on the 5th row behind Gordon Shedden, Colin Turkington and Matt Neal. It's going to be a thrilling climax to the day!
