Croft Circuit is the venue for the 5th meeting of the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. Following the previous rounds, Honda Yuasa Racing's Matt Neal leads the championship table with Andrew Jordan just 4 points behind for Pirtek Racing. Jason Plato is only 3 points behind Jordan as the teams and drivers prepare to do battle at the North Yorkshire circuit.

The first free practice session took place on a dry track with Andrew Jordan posting the fastest time, 0.072 of a second ahead of MG KX Momentum Racing's Jason Plato. The session was halted briefly following a suspension failure on the MG6 of Sam Tordoff which left debris on the exit of Tower corner.

Colin Turkington was 3rd quickest in the fast-improving eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport with Tom Onslow-Cole an excellent 4th in the PPCGB.com/Kraftwerk Racing Volkswagen Passat CC. Rob Collard ended the session 5th with reigning BTCC champion Gordon Shedden 6th ahead of Matt Neal.

The second free practice session started with light rain which increased as the session progressed. The early pace was set by Rob Collard in the eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport and Mat Jackson in the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus. The Audi A4s of Rob Austin and Will Bratt were also running well in 3rd and 4th when the session was stopped to recover the Ciceley Racing Toyota Avensis of Adam Morgan and rebuild the barrier he hit in the treacherous conditions.

The session was due to resume after the lunch break, however this was later abandoned as the barrier repairs took longer than expected to complete. As a consequence of the shortened second session, Rob Collard topped the time sheets with Mat Jackson second, Rob Austin 3rd and Will Bratt 4th.

The next action from the BTCC at Croft Circuit is the qualifying session to determine the grid for the first race of the day tomorrow. This is likely to be a difficult session for the team strategists as the changeable weather will make tyre choice and planning a minute-by-minute exercise.
