BTCC champions lead the way in qualifying at Croft as Colin Turkington secures pole position for the first race tomorrow.

Following the mixed weather conditions at Croft earlier today for free practice, the qualifying session for the 5th meeting on the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car calendar circuit took place on a dry track and in bright sunshine as the forecast rain held off at the North Yorkshire circuit.

Gordon Shedden had a narrow escape early in the session when he lost control of his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic in the complex and slid off the track into the barriers. Fortunately his car was not damaged in the incident and he was able to continue with his qualifying session.

With only a few minutes of the session left Jason Plato's MG KX Momentum Racing MG6 was the fastest car on the track as Joe Girling brought out the red flags when he crashed his Chevrolet Cruze into the barriers. After his car was recovered the session resumed and Colin Turkington put in a fast lap, securing pole position for the first race tomorrow in his eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport.

The top of the qualifying session time sheet was dominated by former BTCC champions with Colin Turkington 1st, Jason Plato 2nd and Matt Neal 3rd. Reigning BTCC champion Gordon Shedden was 4th with Independents champion Andrew Jordan 5th. Rob Collard completed the top 6.

Following their strong performance in the second free practice session, it was disappointing to find the Audi A4s of Rob Austin and Will Bratt down in 18th and 19th, almost 2 seconds of the pace of the leaders.

With 11 cars qualifying within one second of the pole position time and the top three places being taken by different manufacturers, the scene is set for an exciting day of racing tomorrow with three BTCC races plus a full support package to enjoy.
