DTM - Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters
England - Brands Hatch - Preview
By MJP Media | 15 May 2013
Europe's quickest and only multi-national touring car series, DTM, returns to the UK at Brands Hatch Circuit in Kent this weekend.
Gary Paffett
The prestigious German touring car series features phenomenally quick cars from Audi, BMW and Mercedes that lap the Brands Hatch Indy circuit around 7 seconds faster than a British Touring Car Championship car, averaging 104mph. Racing on the 'bullring' Indy circuit, fans can see all of the action for almost 100 laps, including lightning-quick pit-stops.
DTM embarked with new cars from 2012 including the Audi RS5 and technologies including F1 style DRS spoilers adding to the excitement. These cars are fast, loud and provide fantastic action for the bumper crowds. The fastest lap ever by a DTM car at Brands Hatch is Miguel Molina in his Audi in an astonishing 41.896 seconds, compared to Matt Neal's BTCC record of 48.498 seconds.
Bruno Spengler
Last year, BMW returned to the sport after an 18 year absence with their M3 DTM race car led by Canadian driver Bruno Spengler. The veteran driver won four of the season's ten races and landed the Driver's Championship ahead of Britain's very own Gary Paffett. Spengler is defending his title this season but faces stiff competition.
Bromley's Gary Paffett will be out to avenge his 2012 championship defeat by just a single point and victory at his home circuit will strengthen his bid to add a second DTM title to his collection. Britain's Jamie Green will also be out to win following his off-season switch to Audi, as well as BMW's Andy Priaulx who is a former triple World Touring Car Champion. The field also includes former F1 star Timo Glock as well, further confirming the series status in world Motorsport. Also visiting the event and doing some demonstration laps and autograph sessions will be Jenson Button and Paul di Resta.
David Coulthard
Away from the DTM machines, there is an action packed supporting cast with fantastic racing from the FIA European F3, our own BRDC F4, the Lotus Cup UK and the Lotus Elise Trophy.
All of the DTM free practice, qualifying and race action will be featured here over the weekend so be sure not to miss it!
