We are delighted to confirm Dave Newsham as our 'View from the driver's seat' columnist for 2013.

Inverness based Newsham started his British Touring Car Championship career in 2011 when he briefly drove an S2000 BMW 320si for Geoff Steel Racing before moving to Special Tuning Racing driving an NGTC specification SEAT Leon. It was a tough rookie year however Dave still managed to show his potential - occasionally outperforming the Honda Racing Civics of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden.

In 2012 Dave moved to Team ES Racing.com to drive one of their S2000 Vauxhall Vectras and immediately made the rest of the paddock sit up and take notice when he qualified in pole position for the first race of the season at Brands Hatch. He continued to perform well at the second venue of the year, topping the timesheets in the free practice session at Donington Park.

The 3rd race of the day at Snetterton provided the break-through that both Dave and his team were looking for when he took his maiden BTCC victory. At the following meeting at Knockhill he reaffirmed his position as a front-runner with another race win. More podium finishes would come his way before the end of the year.

For 2013 Dave will drive an NGTC Toyota Avensis for the Speedworks Motorsport team and he is understandably upbeat about his prospects for 2013. "In Speedworks I have an excellent team to work with and the all-new Avensis is a seriously good car. I can't wait to get our test programme started in the new year." Speedworks Team Sponsor Tony Hughes told us: "Dave is without doubt one of the quickest and best drivers on the grid. His calculating driving style allows him to avoid a lot of the problems and situations that others get entangled in and we are confident that he will be a tremendous acquisition for the squad. We really hope to be able to challenge for honours this year."
