British Touring Car Championship
Oulton Park Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 28 May 2014
Following its early-season break, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship roars into action again on June 7th and 8th as the teams and drivers head to the picturesque Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
Championship leaders Andrew Jordan and Gordon Shedden
Set in rolling parkland, Oulton Park is popular with drivers and fans alike with its undulating track and variety of fast and slow corners providing a real challenge for the drivers and a feast of entertainment for the fans. In recent years, the Cheshire circuit has seen some of the BTCC's fiercest battles and memorable events.
This year the drivers will return to the longer 'International' layout, last used during the Supertouring era. To celebrate, the support programme includes action from the new Super Touring Trophy with John Cleland and Patrick Watts expected to be on the grid in a Vauxhall Vectra and Peugeot 406 respectively.
Colin Turkington is currently 3rd in the championship standings
Arriving at Oulton Park, five former BTCC champions head the 2014 standings with reigning champion Andrew Jordan at the top of the table on 141 points for Pirtek Racing. Just behind Jordan is Gordon Shedden on 133 points with Colin Turkington 3rd on 123, Matt Neal 4th on 110 and Jason Plato 5th on 106. With the likes of Rob Collard, Mat Jackson and Sam Tordoff close behind the top five, the championship is still wide open with everything to play for.
At the Oulton Park meeting last year, Jason Plato won the first two races however a fire in his MG6 caused him to retire from the final race of the day. Plato also retired from the 3rd race of the day last time out at Thruxton when his MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save MG6 suffered read suspension damage following a collision with Adam Morgan's WIX Racing Mercedes Benz A-Class. A good set of results from the three BTCC races at Oulton Park this weekend could see Plato re-ignite his 2014 championship campaign, however there are plenty other drivers who will be determined to stop him!
