Croft Preview - WIN TICKETS!

Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire is the venue for the next meeting of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship on June 28th and 29th.

It hardly seems any time at all since we were looking forward to the start of the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, yet the season is almost at the half way point as the teams, drivers and fans head to the Croft Circuit for the 5th meeting of the year on June 28th and 29th. Surrounded by farmland, the North Yorkshire circuit is always a firm favourite with the fans as its mixture of low, medium and high-speed sections, together with the tightest hairpin bend on the BTCC calendar, always produces exciting racing.

It was 'all change' at the top of the Drivers' Championship table last time out at Cheshire's Oulton Park circuit where a series of good results from the three races for the eBay Motors team put 2009 champion Colin Turkington in the lead, with reigning BTCC champion Andrew Jordan dropping from 1st to 3rd place as the Hondas struggled around the predominantly wet circuit.

Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan wasn't the only Honda driver to have problems at Oulton Park with former BTCC champion Matt Neal also failing to score highly. The only Honda driver to have any appreciable success was 2012 champion Gordon Shedden who was consistently the highest finishing Honda driver and the only one to visit the podium all weekend when he came 2nd in the third race of the day with his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Tourer. Shedden maintained his 2nd place in the championship standings.

Other drivers to have success in the wet conditions were Exocet Racing's Rob Austin who brought his Audi A4 home in 2nd place in race 2 and Aron Smith who won the last race of the day for Chrome Edition Restart Racing. Both drivers are now inside the top 10 in the championship title race. eBay Motors' Rob Collard also did well, gaining two podium finishes and ending the day 5th in the championship ahead of Matt Neal who slipped from 4th to 6th.

With four former BTCC champions at the top of the championship table and the likes of Rob Collard, Matt Neal and Mat Jackson snapping at their heels, the racing at Croft is certain to be close and exciting. Having won the first two races last year, championship leader Colin Turkington should be in a good position to consolidate his lead in the 2014 championship, however the Honda Yuasa Racing Civics also performed well last year and will certainly be looking to recover lost ground.
