Rockingham is different to other circuits as it is the only one on the BTCC calendar that has a banked track. This, in addition to its long straights, fast corners and hairpin bends makes for extremely exciting motor racing. Spectator facilities are excellent and include grandstands which afford views of almost the entire circuit.

In recent years, the Rockingham rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship have proved to be a pivotal point in Britain's premier motorsport series and this year is likely to be no exception. With 9 races over 3 meetings remaining on the 2014 calendar there are currently 10 drivers who could mathematically win the Drivers' Championship. Realistically it looks like it will be 3-way battle for the title between 3 former champions.

Currently topping the championship standings is eBay Motors driver and 2009 champion Colin Turkington on 309 points. Behind Turkington is 2012 champion Gordon Shedden for Honda Yuasa Racing on 286 points and MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save driver and double champion (2001 and 2010) Jason Plato on 270 points.

With 67 points available from each of the remaining 3 meetings there are several drivers close behind the 3 championship leaders who will be keen to take advantage of any mistakes or misfortunes. Knockhill race winner and eBay Motors driver Rob Collard is currently 4th, 50 points behind Jason Plato with defending champion Andrew Jordan 5th just 3 points further behind and Mat Jackson 6th, another 10 points down.
