British Touring Car Championship
Silverstone Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 16 September 2014
The British Touring Car Championship heads to Silverstone on September 27th and 28th for the penultimate meeting of the year. Colin Turkington leads the championship however 6 drivers could still take the 2014 title.
Colin Turkington leads the way in the championship
Following his two race wins last time out at Rockingham, eBay Motors driver Colin Turkington will go into the penultimate meeting of the year at Silverstone with a 55 point lead over his nearest rival, former double BTCC champion Jason Plato. With 8 race wins under his belt so far this year, Turkington has won an average of one race in three this season and is well placed to secure the BTCC Drivers' Championship title he last won back in 2009.
Behind Colin Turkington, the battle for the championship is extremely close with MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save's Jason Plato 2nd, only 9 points ahead of 2012 champion Gordon Shedden for Honda Yuasa Racing in 3rd. Reigning BTCC champion Andrew Jordan is 4th in the standings but is 47 points behind Shedden and 111 points off Turkington however with 134 points up for grabs over the remaining two meetings anything is possible with Rob Collard and Mat Jackson also in with a mathematical chance of lifting the 2014 BTCC Drivers' Championship.
Jason Plato will be keen to close the gap at Silverstone
Although six drivers could mathematically win the championship, it looks like it will come down to a 3-way fight between former BTCC champions Colin Turkington, Jason Plato and Gordon Shedden so Silverstone could be a critical meeting and with its relatively short lap and long, wide straights it never fails to deliver plenty of bumper-to-bumper action.
In addition to the three penultimate races of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship which headline the event, there will be full support programme including the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup, Ginetta Junior Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Protyre Formula Renault Championship and Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain - a full programme of motorsport indeed!
Gordon Shedden is currently 3rd in the championship
Adult tickets for race day (Sunday) start from just £29 if booked in advance with FREE admission for accompanied children aged 15 or under all weekend. With an 'open paddock policy' you can also get up close to your favourite BTCC teams and drivers. Visit the Silverstone web site or call the circuit on 0844 3728 270 for tickets to what is sure to be a thrilling event.
