Brands Hatch (GP) - Race 2 Report Update - 12/10/14
By MJP Media | 12 October 2014
Adam Morgan is declared the winner of race two at Brands Hatch as Jason Plato is handed a 20 second penalty for his collision with Colin Turkington.
Adam and Russell Morgan celebrate maiden BTCC race win
As we reported in our race two article, there was a cynical collision instigated by Jason Plato against Colin Turkington on lap 4 of the second BTCC race this afternoon at Brands Hatch. This incident was reviewed by the race officials who initially declared this as a driving offence and under the three strikes rule meant that Plato would have to start the next race from the back of the grid.
This decision was then referred to the stewards who felt that Plato's actions merited more than a mere slap on the wrist. As a result of this, they imposed a 20 second penalty on Plato for race two, as well as being required to start the last race from the back of the grid.
Adam Morgan in his WIX Racing Mercedes Benz A-Class
The revised decision resulted in Jason Plato being demoted to 13th, giving Adam Morgan in the WIX Racing Mercedes Benz A-Class his first ever BTCC win. Adam and his dad - team manager Russell - were delighted. Russell told us "We are delighted for the win for us and the sponsors WIX who have been brilliant. The car has been sensational for us and we always knew that Adam was capable of winning. This gives us tremendous encouragement for next year and we will be working hard over the winter to improve the car and to mount a realistic challenge!"
