A View From The Driver's Seat: Thruxton - the fastest track on the calendar
By Aiden Moffat / MJP Media | 1 May 2014
Thruxton - the fastest track on the calendar and I can't wait to put things right after last time.
My last outing at Thruxton earlier this year in testing proved to be a short-lived experience and one which I am very keen to put behind me once and for all.
When I arrived on circuit that cold and very wet morning, I was keen to get out in the car. I had been at the circuit the day before but not in the Chevrolet, so I guess the adrenaline was running well. Should I have gone out when I did? Who knows - and there is no point in looking back. What happened, happened and if there is one thing I learnt it was that there are times when discretion is better, but this sort of thing is what gives you experience.
This weekend things will be different. For a start there isn't any major rain forecast so we are hoping for a dry weekend. Also, I now have a lot more time and experience in the car, so I don't think I am as likely to make that sort of error.
The season has gone quite well so far for me and the team. We have some good people on board and well defined plans as to what we are trying to develop. Touch wood, things are working quite well. We are making some steady progress and enjoying it as we go.
Our aim for this weekend is to get in a lot of solid laps in free practice, have a good qualifying run and if we can improve on Donington's race strength we should be quite happy. It would be great to get another top 20 finish or two, but we'll have to wait and see. I am confident, but also realistic as I have far fewer laps of Thruxton under my belt than I wanted.
If there is one thing I am looking forward to as much as the racing it is meeting you, my friends and fans. With a bit of luck and some demon driving by yours truly I will give you all something to really cheer about. See you at the weekend folks!
