With less than two weeks to go to the Homecoming Scotland 2014 backed Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Knockhill Racing Circuit, I will be taking part in a unique British Touring Car Forth Road Bridge Parade next week. It is going to happen next Thursday, 21st August at 11am, featuring me and some of my fellow BTCC drivers.
It's the 50th anniversary of Jim Clark winning the BTCC title and to celebrate this and the 50th anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge, Knockhill are working with the organisers of the Forth Bridge Festival (www.forthbridgesfestival.com) which will see a parade of six of Jim Clark's cars and four modern day BTCC cars across the Bridge at 11am from the South to North.
Members of the public are all invited from 9:30am onwards to view the cars at the former lorry park in South Queensferry where the BTCC cars, a Jim Clark single seater, two of his Lotus Cortinas and two of his other early cars will leave from to go across the Forth Road Bridge before heading on to Knockhill by Dunfermline for the main BTCC event on the 23rd / 24th.
Last time out at Snetterton
Since the last round at Snetterton I was involved in the big Dunlop tyre test at the same circuit on the Tuesday after the races. This was a great opportunity for me to develop the car further with our new performance partners Ciceley Motorsport, which is already looking very positive indeed. After a solid mornings work in which we really got to grips with things, I had one of the most amazing afternoons possible behind the wheel. Not only did we make even more advances in co-operation with the Ciceley boys, but by the end of the end of the day I was second fastest.
Given that the majority of the BTCC field were taking part, to be second quickest on the day behind Colin Turkington was a fantastic result and I was genuinely surprised. The coverage and attention I got from that was brilliant and it looks like the partnership with Ciceley was certainly the right move for me and the team. The car felt fantastic.
Aiden was 2nd fastest at the recent tyre test
So now I am concentrating on my home round - Knockhill. The circuit is celebrating its own 40th anniversary this year as well as the Jim Clark events so this is going to be a massive weekend for me, the circuit and Scotland. What a weekend it would be to produce a great result, eh? That is what I am working hard towards, but as we all know, there are a lot of phenomenal drivers in the BTCC and it won't be easy. Still, I know the circuit as well as anyone, I think and I will be doing my very best.
I hope to see you all either on the Thursday 21st at the bridge or over the weekend and would love you to come and say hello during the weekend. I'll do my best to produce a great performance for everyone and now I just can't wait!
