A View From The Driver's Seat: Where on earth has a year gone?
By Aiden Moffat / MJP Media | 8 October 2014
Aiden Moffat looks forward to Brands Hatch this weekend. The event will mark the end of his first full season in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
This time last year I had only really completed one full round in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and came to Brands Hatch to tackle the Grand Prix circuit with a mixture of trepidation and anticipation with a Volkswagen Passat to play with, little knowing that I would do a full season in 2014 with my own team!
This year however at Brands Hatch I arrive with a full season behind me in which I have learnt so much and thanks to my brilliant sponsors at Laser Tools Racing, my team and my family, I have learnt a lot about the circuits, the car and myself as a driver. We have been steadily getting better and I really enjoyed our last time out.
At Silverstone we had two reasons to celebrate. The first was my 18th birthday on race day - which not only embarrassed me a bit, but also added some great atmosphere for everyone there and the very rare spectacle of the bagpipes being heard live on ITV. Silverstone also gave me the best birthday present I could have had - our best qualifying result of the season starting in 15th place on the grid for the first race.
The three races at Silverstone were also strong for us, completing three excellent top 20 finishes at what was Laser Tools home round in front of a bumper crowd and a packed hospitality area with the team. That was certainly a weekend to remember for all of us and I was so proud to be able to put on such a good show for my sponsors and fans.
So, on to Brands Hatch and what do I expect? Well, for a start I like Brands Hatch and think that it will suit my driving style. We also have a much stronger car than we did earlier in the season and our strong showing at Silverstone bodes well for the longer Brands Hatch GP circuit. Finally, one of strongest traits this season has been our ability to stay out of trouble and bring the car home safe and sound. We haven't at any point run round at the rear of the field and I think that we have a good chance of some more top 20 finishes this weekend.
This is the last round of the season and I will be doing my best to give it a great send off. I look forward to seeing you all at the weekend, so please come and say hello!!
