Donington Park Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 8 April 2015
After a fantastic start to the 2015 season, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship now heads to Donington Park on April 18th and 19th for the second meeting of the year.
Rob Collard in his JCT600 Racing with GardX BMW 125i M Sport
Donington Park near East Midlands Airport is the venue for the next meeting of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. This historic circuit is a tough technical challenge for the BTCC drivers and their engineers with its fast, open sweeping bends that rise and fall through the circuit's picturesque setting.
The first round of the year is generally an unpredictable affair, however despite a larger than usual number of driver and team changes for the 2015 season it was the established names that came to the fore. The first team to lay down the gauntlet were West Surrey Racing with Andy Priaulx taking the first pole position of the season for Team IHG Rewards Club and Rob Collard winning the first race of the day for JCT600 Racing with GardX. West Surrey Racing are the constructor for both sponsor's teams and with a 2nd place finish in race two and a 4th in race three, they should be pleased with the start to their 2015 campaign.
Matt Neal at the wheel of the new Honda Civic Type R
Honda Yuasa Racing got their year off to a fantastic start with both their drivers taking a victory at Brands Hatch. Gordon Shedden beat Andy Priaulx by just 0.040 second in race two with team-mate Matt Neal winning race three. This was a tremendous achievement for all concerned considering the limited testing done with their all-new Honda Civic Type Rs. Team BMR also had a good start to the season, getting two of their drivers on the podium in race one, one in races two and three. They could well have taken a victory themselves had Jason Plato's Volkswagen CC not punctured a tyre whilst leading the second race.
Shaun Hollamby's AmDTuning.com team also enjoyed a great start to its 2015 campaign despite a somewhat troubled pre-season where illness prevented Mike Bushell, the reigning Clio Cup champion, from completing his full testing programme. Mike crossed the line in race 3 in a magnificent 11th place. As the best placed rookie driver in that race and having been the second rookie home in the previous two races, he emerged from the weekend with silverware and a healthy lead of 14 points in the revamped Jack Sears Trophy.
