As the red lights went out, Adam Morgan and Andrew Jordan both got good starts with Morgan holding on to the lead. Tom Ingram also started well and by the end of the first lap had pushed his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis up to 16th place from 23rd on the grid. Gordon Shedden lost out at the start but had made his way up to 7th by the end of lap 2 ahead of the Exocet AlcoSense Racing Audi A4 of Rob Austin and the Team BMR Volkswagen CC of Jason Plato.

A couple of laps later Shedden passed Collard then set about catching Jack Goff in the MG 888 Racing MG 6GT. Collard lost another place on the next lap, this time to Jason Plato.

At the same time, Aiden Moffat spun his Laser Tool Racing Mercedes Benz A-Class but managed to get it back on the track, albeit after losing 5 places. By this time, Matt Neal was up to 11th place from 25th on the grid, benefiting from not having to carry any success ballast in his Honda Civic Type R.
