British Touring Car Championship
Oulton Park Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 26 May 2015
Following a short early-season break, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship roars into action again on June 6th and 7th as the teams and drivers head to the picturesque Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
Honda Yuasa Racing - 1st and 3rd in the Drivers' Championship
Set in rolling parkland, Oulton Park is popular with drivers and fans alike with its undulating track and variety of fast and slow corners providing a real challenge for the drivers and a feast of entertainment for the fans. In recent years, the Cheshire circuit has seen some of the BTCC's fiercest battles and memorable events. Having raced on the longer 'International' layout last year, the drivers will this year return to the more familiar 'Island' layout for the 4th meeting of the year.
Arriving at Oulton Park, five former BTCC champions head the 2015 standings with Gordon Shedden at the top of the table on 114 points for Honda Yuasa Racing. Just behind Shedden is reigning BTCC champion Colin Turkington on 106 points with Matt Neal 3rd on 103, Jason Plato 4th on 102 and Andrew Jordan 5th on 99. With the likes of Adam Morgan, Jack Goff and Rob Collard close behind the top five, the championship is wide open with everything to play for.
Reigning BTCC champion Colin Turkington is 2nd in the standings
At last year's meeting, Colin Turkington won the first two races with Aron Smith taking victory in the 3rd. Rob Collard and Jason Plato achieved two podium finishes each so with Turkington, Plato and Smith now driving for the same squad, Team BMR must surely be hopeful of a good points haul from the Oulton Park meeting with their drivers having taken five of the nine podium places last year. There is also the possibility that one or even two of their drivers could knock Gordon Shedden off the top of the championship table.
Gordon Shedden will of course be keen to protect and extend his championship lead from not only Team BMR's Colin Turkington and Jason Plato but also from his Honda Yuasa Racing team-mate Matt Neal and MG 888 Racing's Andrew Jordan. In recent years, Honda Yuasa Racing have had mixed fortunes at the Oulton Park circuit so both Shedden and Neal will need good results from this meeting to keep their championship campaigns on course. The scene is set for a thrilling weekend of BTCC action.
