With just six races remaining on the 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship calendar, attention now falls on the National Circuit at Silverstone for the penultimate meeting of the year. Gordon Shedden currently leads the Drivers' Championship on 286 points with Jason Plato 6 points behind on 280. Matt Neal is 3rd in the standings on 259 points with defending champion Colin Turkington 4th on 253 and Andrew Jordan 5th on 240.

The first BTCC activity at the Northamptonshire circuit was the first of the two free practice sessions which took place in cool but sunny conditions. The title contenders were well off the pace with Mat Jackson setting the fastest lap time of 58.952 seconds in the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus. Josh Cook was second fastest in the Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze only 0.067 seconds behind Jackson. Warren Scott was 3rd fastest in his Team BMR RCIB Insurance Volkswagen CC just 0.005 behind Cook.

With Jack Goff 4th for MG 888 Racing and Dave Newsham 5th for Power Maxed Racing, Gordon Shedden was the highest placed title contender in 6th place for Honda Yuasa Racing with Colin Turkington 7th and Andrew Jordan 8th. Matt Neal was 12th fastest with Jason Plato 15th. The session ended a few minutes early when Warren Scott lost control of his car, hitting a concrete wall and sustaining heavy front-end damage. Scott was taken to hospital for medical examination.

In the second free practice session, Mat Jackson continued his run of good form once again topping the time sheet and knocking 0.4 seconds of his lap time from the first session. Also carrying their earlier pace from this morning were Jack Goff and Josh Cook who were in the top 4 in both sessions. Colin Turkington improved to finish 3rd with Tom Ingram completing the top 5.

Championship leader Gordon Shedden was not far off the pace with a solid 7th in the second session, sandwiched between Aron Smith in 6th and Andrew Jordan in 8th. Championship rival Jason Plato improved slightly to end the session in 11th place ahead of Matt Neal who finished a disappointing 12th for the 2nd time today. The next action from Silverstone is the qualifying session to determine the grid for the first race tomorrow and with pole position, the opportunity to earn the first championship point of the weekend.
