British Touring Car Championship
Silverstone Preview - WIN TICKETS!
By MJP Media | 16 September 2015
The British Touring Car Championship heads to Silverstone on September 26th and 27th for the penultimate meeting of the year. Gordon Shedden leads the championship however Jason Plato is just 6 points behind.
Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal - 1st and 3rd in the championship
Following two podium finishes in the first two races at Rockingham, Honda Yuasa Racing's Gordon Shedden moved to the top of the Drivers' Championship table however Team BMR RCIB Insurance's Jason Plato responded with a win in the final race of the day to close the gap to just 6 points heading into the penultimate meeting at Silverstone. Despite Plato winning 5 races to Shedden's 4, the consistent results of the Honda Civic Type R have kept Shedden and team-mate Matt Neal in contention with Neal currently 3rd in the championship, 21 points behind Plato.
Consistency in performance could well be the key to winning the championship. Gordon Shedden has failed to score points in only one race this season with team-mate Matt Neal failing to score on just two. In contrast, Jason Plato has failed to score points in 4 races - more than Shedden and Neal combined. Plato will need to score solidly in all six races remaining on the calendar if he is to again lift the Drivers' Championship trophy he won in 2001 and 2010.
2nd in the championship, Jason Plato is just 6 points off the lead
Although 10 drivers could mathematically win the championship with two meetings remaining, it looks like it will be a 5-way fight between the former BTCC champions with Gordon Shedden, Jason Plato and Matt Neal leading the way. Colin Turkington is currently 4th in the standings with Team BMR RCIB Insurance and is only 6 points behind Neal with MG 888 Racing's Andrew Jordan 5th, just 13 points further behind despite having not won a race so far this year.
In addition to the three penultimate races of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship which headline the event, there will be full support programme including the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup, KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Renault UK Clio Cup and MSA Formula Championship - a full programme of motorsport indeed!
Andrew Jordan is still within reach of the Drivers' Championship trophy
